About ironwood gym
"This Isn't Considered Work. This Is My Calling."
— Matt Gallegos, Gym Manager, CPSW
Our Story
Ironwood Gym was built on a simple but powerful idea: recovery should support the whole person. When Billy DuTremaine saw a missing piece in treatment, he set out to create a space where physical health, structure, and belonging could become part of the healing process.
He secured the location, designed the space, arranged brand-new equipment, and helped shape the look and feel of the gym from the ground up. But what made Ironwood different wasn't about the building or the equipment—it was the culture. From the beginning, the goal was to create a place where people felt welcomed no matter where they came from, and where they could show up, get stronger, and feel supported.
That vision became the foundation of Ironwood Gym: a recovery-based environment built to help people heal their bodies, build confidence, and stay connected to a community that believes in them. Ironwood is more than a gym, it’s part of a larger story about hope, commitment, and giving people the tools to move forward.

The Right Place At The Right Time
Around the time Ironwood was coming together, Kim DuTremaine posted on Facebook about opening a gym connected to a recovery treatment center. Matt Gallegos was the first one to comment.
"This is what I want to do. I want to help people in addiction and show them how fitness can be powerful in their recovery."
A mutual connection led him to Kim's husband, Billy DuTremaine, co-founder of Cottonwood Pathways. Billy heard what Matt had to offer and hired him on the spot. The rest is history.
"You got to be kidding me," Matt remembers thinking. "This is my calling."
What Makes Us Different
We're not your typical clinical setting. From day one, we've worked intentionally to maintain a warm, welcoming environment—the kind of place where people feel safe to be vulnerable and do the hard work recovery requires.
You'll notice the difference in:
Our People - Every member of our team is here for the right reasons. We've built a culture where caring is non-negotiable, and it shows.
Our Approach - We don't do cookie-cutter treatment. We look at each person individually and design care around your unique needs, strengths, and goals.
Our Network - We've created programs that address the whole person—clinical treatment, physical health, safe housing, community connection, and real-world skills.
Our Accountability - We're honest about what recovery takes, and we'll be with you every step of the way.

What We've Built
"I never had a bad day here. Not once."
- Matt Gallegos
What started as a small, scrappy operation has grown into a team of five trainers, all Certified Peer Support Workers, all in recovery themselves. Some of our trainers went through Cottonwood's program before they ever worked here. They came back because they wanted to give what was given to them.
Ironwood is now the only recovery-focused gym in the Four Corners. We serve Cottonwood clients, Brenda's House of Hope residents, adolescents, and community members who want what we offer: a gym that treats fitness as medicine, and every person who walks in as someone worth fighting for.
Our Mission
"Our mission is to show clients how fitness can be a powerful tool in helping them recover, stay sober, and with their mental health."
